Farris Store

As in most Cape Cod villages of the 19th century, South Yarmouth had several stores, providing groceries and household goods for the needs of the community. R.D. Farris owned one such store on North Main Street, known to have been operating from the 1860s through the 1880s. Farris sold a variety of household items such as glass and tin ware, oil carpeting, canton mattings, parlor stoves and ranges, glassware, wooden ware, barrels and tools. This building is still standing, although the facade is much altered, at 11 North Main Street, South Yarmouth.
