Now Open for the 2026 Season
On June 5, 2026, the museum reopened after a 19 month closure for inventory and refurbishment (see below for more information). HSOY is proud to announce the 2026 season special exhibition: “Yarmouth in Revolution.”
To mark the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution, the Captain Bangs Hallet House Museum is presenting a special exhibition during the summer of 2026. “Yarmouth In Revolution” looks at what life was like for the townspeople living through the pivotal years of the American Revolution. We focus attention on their daily lives: how did political and military events effect them and how did they manage to live ‘normal’ lives during this tumultuous time? What was life like in this village in the 1760s-1780s?
Drawn from the collections of the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth as well as private lenders, the exhibit showcases a select number of artifacts associated with Yarmouth’s experiences during the Revolutionary War period.
The Captain Bangs Hallet House Museum is the most tangible expression of HSOY’s mission to “preserve, promote and present” our local history. “Yarmouth In Revolution” will be the first of several special exhibits planned for upcoming years that will showcase HSOY’s history and share the Museum’s collection with audiences old and new.
2026 Season Info: Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays, June 5 - October 10. Hourly Docent Guided Tours 11:00 am - 3:00 pm (last tour at 2pm). Online ticket reservations for regularly scheduled tours are now available. Click the button below to learn more about the musuem and to select and book your tour date/time.
Please note: the museum does not meet accessibility standards due to age and preservation of the building and surrounding property.
Advanced online tickets are not required - but highly encouraged as tour group size is limited to 10 people. For MA educators, & Blue Star Families - please check in with the docent at the door upon arrival and prepare to show your ID or applicable discount card (do NOT purchase/reserve tickets online). HSOY Member, Card to Culture, and full-priced, non-member tickets should be purchased in advance online.

We are proud to participate in the Blue Star Museums program which is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and participating museums across America. For a list of participating museums, visit arts.gov/BlueStarMuseums. The free admission program is available for those currently serving in the United States Military — Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and Space Force, members of the Reserves, National Guard, U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps, and up to five family members. Qualified members must show a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), DD Form 1173-1 ID card or the Next Generation Uniformed Services (Real) ID card for entrance into a participating Blue Star Museum.

The Bangs Hallet House Museum was closed for the 2025 season in order to focus on several collection management projects. The museum’s holdings were studied and inventoried. The temporary closure was transformative in ways that benefit the museum and HSOY for years to come: it provided time to redesign the displays and rethink our approach to special exhibition spaces within the house. We sought to modernize the museum while honoring its past; to make it more accessible for our public and grow our audience, reflecting our mission to share Yarmouth’s history with the public. We reopened for the 2026 season with a special exhibition that focuses on Yarmouth during the pivotal period of American Revolution.
Inventory volunteers will be assisting with this project.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the centerpiece of the Society’s properties, this home is a stately, fully-furnished sea captain's home, circa 1840. It is the only one like it on Cape Cod regularly open to the public, providing an intimate glimpse into how sea captains' families lived and entertained in the Victorian era.
We are located at 11 Strawberry Lane, just off the Old King’s Highway (Route 6A) and on the Yarmouth Port Common. Parking is available along the Common.
Also on the grounds of the Captain Bangs Hallet House Museum is a 120 year old Weeping Beech Tree, one of only a few on the Cape. It's a spectacular sight with an enormous spread and limbs that literally embrace all those who stand beneath it. Visitors are welcome but due to the age of the tree please do not climb.
