OUR COLLECTIONS SHINE A LIGHT
INTO THE RICHNESS OF OUR SHARED HERITAGE
The Historical Society of Old Yarmouth collects objects and items of all types that pertain to Yarmouth’s colorful history, from the earliest times through the first settlements, from the impact of wars to the effects of social and technological change. We often conduct exhibits and place objects from our collections on public display.
The Society maintains a number of collections:
• The Museum Collection—which can be seen on display in the Captain Bangs Hallet House Museum and often in special exhibits and at other venues.
• The Costume and Textiles Collection—often featured in periodic, themed exhibits and in Bangs Hallet House during the summer.
• The Library and Archives—includes a Circulating Library for Members, Reference Volumes, Pamphlets, Photographs, and an Historic Archive Library maintained under climate-controlled conditions, all housed in our Administrative Office, the Gorham Cobbler Shop. Learn more about research here.
